Our mission

The Gethsemane Lutheran Children’s Ministry (GLCM) is designed to meet the needs of children through an inclusive preschool program that offers a variety of activities and expressions while providing an environment which emphasizes the basic Christian values of love, trust, peace, cooperation, and respect. GLCM is a safe and affirming environment that promotes acceptance of all children and families.

Programs

program1

Curriculum programs run on a calendar similar to that of the Austin Independent School District. Classes begin their transition in mid-August to the new school year. You can view and download our school-year calendar online.

Our open house is normally the Friday prior to transition from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. Children and parents are able to visit classrooms, talk with teachers, and receive up-to-date information. New classes begin the following Monday.

The first or second Sunday in September is our special Rally Sunday. This is a time when Gethsemane Lutheran Children’s Ministry and our host church, Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Austin, gather together in support of our program. During the morning service, teachers, administrators, and Foster Grandparents receive a blessing and the children sing for the congregation. After the Men in Mission provide Sunday dinner, there is a raffle, a silent auction, a moonwalk, a clown, and vendors.

In the fall, we prepare for activities such as pictures, parties, the children’s Halloween parade, the Thanksgiving program, and feasts.

In December, the children put on a special Christmas program. There is also a visit from Santa Claus, along with gift exchanges and parties.

The spring brings us to Valentine celebrations, preparations for Easter, the Week of the Young Child, and graduation.

Gethsemane Lutheran Children’s Ministry offers a summer program filled with special themes, a bike day, splash days, Vacation Bible School, and the End of Summer Splash Bash.

Enrichment Programs

Program Description

Chapel

chapel

Once a week, we gather in the church narthex for chapel to hear a special message from the pastor. During this time, we listen to a Bible story, sing songs, and say prayers. This experience incorporates our weekly Bible curriculum and enables the children to build a spiritual foundation that will last a lifetime.

Music

darguitar

Once a week, children from two years of age through pre-kindergarten go to “Music with Dar Joy.” Miss Dar introduces the children to musical instruments, new songs, and dances. This is a time that both teachers and children enjoy. Even the smallest babies have music once a week. Miss Dar travels through the infant and toddler rooms, playing her guitar and singing songs to and with the children.
