We see the care of your children as an honor that you have trusted to us. Many of our policies reflect our concern for the safety and well-being of your child while in our care. More detail on each of our policies can be found in the GLCM Parent Handbook.
If AISD classes are cancelled or delayed due to weather, or if the director believes remaining open would jeopardize the safe travel of children or staff, the center may be closed. Once closed, the center remains closed the rest of the day. GLCM strives to ensure clear communication with parents regarding delays or closures using a wide variety of modern media, including text messaging services and e-mails.
Safety and Security
The safety and security of your children is an important part of our job. We conduct thorough background checks on all our teachers and staff. To maintain building security, GLCM has a keypad entry on all doors into the center, as well as security cameras monitoring our parking lot and entrances. We also practice safety drills with our staff and children regularly to ensure security if an event arises. Fire drills are conducted monthly and storm drills are conducted quarterly. Additionally, although the possibility of a catastrophic event is minimal, GLCM has a full catastrophic event procedure that will be implemented if the need ever arises.
In order to protect all children enrolled at the center, GLCM has a strict illness and communicable disease policy. If a child exhibits symptoms such as fever, intestinal disturbance, red or discharging eyes or ears, or other key symptoms, the child must be kept home. If already at school, the parents will be called to pick their child up within the hour, after which late pick-up fees will apply. A child may also be sent home if the illness results in a greater need for care than staff can provide without compromising health, safety, or supervision of the other children.
A child must be symptom free, and have received any prescribed medication, for 36 hours before returning. If the child has symptoms of illness because of allergies or reaction to a medication, a written note from the child’s physician must be on file stating that the child’s symptoms are not due to a contagious condition.
If the child has been exposed to or has contracted a communicable disease, parents must notify the child’s teacher or the director. This information is required by the Texas Department of Human Services. Parents will also be notified if children have been exposed to a communicable disease while at GLCM.
GLCM is licensed to operate from 7:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Parents are asked to please respect the scheduled hours. The fee for an initial incident of late pick up is $5.00 for every 5-minute increment after the pickup deadline (4:00 p.m. for part-time care, 6:00 p.m. for full-time care). Further incidents of late pick up will incur the same $5.00 per 5-minute penalties plus an additional fee of $10.00.
